The Graduate Engineering Program at Jackson State University provides an environment that accommodates full time graduate engineering students who plan to have careers in engineering practice, research and academia. By conducting many graduate courses in the evening, engineers who are employed full time in the Jackson area are provided the opportunity to pursue an advanced degree or prepare for the Professional Engineering (PE) Exam. Students may earn a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in engineering with emphasis in one of six areas: Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Computer Engineering, Geological Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Telecommunications Engineering.
Located on the second floor of the e-Center, the Cyber Lounge is the perfect business center for e-Center guests to check emails and return missed calls or for students to relax and study before class. Equipped with three computers, printer, a flat screen television and Internet connections for personal laptops, the Cyber Lounge is opened Monday- Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Department of Mass Communications educates and trains students to become leaders in the communications industry. Students are provided with a strong foundation in the First Amendment, written and oral communications skills, critical thinking, theory, research, numerical and statistical concepts. Offering both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree, the Department of Mass Communications has three areas of concentration: Multimedia Journalism, Media Production and Integrated Marketing Communications. The program has been accredited by Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) for 27 years: first accredited in 1984 and reaccredited in 2011.
Mississippi e-Career Academy online training allows participants to tailor their career education and schedule with Microsoft, Cisco and CompTIA online training programs.
The multimedia-based online training is an effective method that meets the critical demands of today's computer users. Experience instructor-led training courses in a comfortable and convenience of home or work. The e-Career Academy provides one-on-one training with an expert, full motion video, which allows participants to see the steps, listen to the explanations, and perform the hands-on lab exercises. e-Career Academy's virtual classroom instruction provides one of the most flexible and comfortable training experiences.
The Educator Resource Center (ERC) at Jackson State University provides educators a chance to receive free educational materials and to attend professional development workshops. The ERC contains a vast collection of materials for educators, including videotapes, software, printed materials and lesson plans that reflect the most recent scientific discoveries about space and the Earth. Subjects range from science and geography to meteorology, astronomy, social studies and environmental science.
The Executive Ph.D. (EPhD) Program in Urban Higher Education at Jackson State University (JSU) prepares students to assume senior leadership roles in post-secondary institutions and other organizations whose primary endeavors relate to or impact the operations of institutions of higher learning. It is designed for experienced faculty, executives, middle/entry level managers and other institutional leaders in higher education and related human services agencies. The program engages participants in the analysis of different facets of operations and management of post-secondary institutions and in the development of solutions to potential or existing challenges facing urban and metropolitan institutions.
Jackson State University's Faculty Development Center aims to promote the use of technological resources in traditional learning and classroom practices. Its primary focus is targeting the infusions of technology and education while providing training and support to all faculty.
The Department of Mass Communications oversees the operation of JSU TV22, a student-run closed-circuit channel that services the Jackson State University campus community. The channel is a co-curricular activity that provides students with experience in news, production, sports, sales, promotions, and management. TV22 can be viewed 24/7 via Comcast cable on channel 22 in dorm rooms and offices located on the JSU campus.
